Position Overview

As the Quality Systems Manager, you will report to the Quality Manager and hold a pivotal role in the implementation, execution, verification, and validation of our local Quality Management System. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Food Safety and Modernization Act, as well as maintaining up-to-date food production licensing, certifications, and registrations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain adherence to food quality and safety guidelines per Refresco, customer, and regulatory standards (e.g., SQF).
  • Oversee compliance with FDA, state/city regulations, Refresco's quality policies, GMPs, HACCP, Allergen, and Kosher standards.
  • Provide guidance and training on work standards and expected outcomes.
  • Act as the primary owner for quality systems, including document control and quality data collection.
  • Support compliance with third-party food safety and quality certification requirements, implementing and advancing our food safety and quality management systems.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the SQF System, ensuring adherence to all relevant food safety and quality requirements.
  • Manage all internal and external audit systems to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct audits and verification with local teams to ensure alignment with corporate quality guidelines.
  • Oversee quality projects, ensuring proper documentation like validation and verification protocols is complete.
  • Collaborate with internal teams for support in local site applications related to document control and quality data collection.
  • Facilitate the setup of new products or revisions in quality data collection systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in local quality systems and implement effective solutions.
  • Drive enhancements in quality system programs such as pest control, GMP, and maintenance.
  • Promote governance, alignment, and communication of best practices in quality systems.
  • Provide support to the Quality Manager for day-to-day operations.
  • Champion local quality system programs such as HACCP, CAPA, GFSI, and customer requirements.
  • Review and update local policies and validation protocols as necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, SAP, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on results.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change.
  • Ability to understand and work with the metric system.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in quality management or a related technical field is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance or Quality Control within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ideally in the food or beverage sector.
  • Experience with the implementation and management of Quality System Software.
  • Deep understanding of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, such as SQF or FSSC 22000, with hands-on experience managing compliance and audits.
  • Proven knowledge of real-time data collection systems for monitoring production processes.

Working Conditions:

  • Attention to detail is crucial; this role may require focusing on one or two senses at a time.
  • This is a fast-paced work environment that demands the ability to maintain focus under pressure.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions.
  • Work can be mentally demanding due to deadlines and production quotas.

Travel Requirements: Up to 50% travel may be required.

  • Standing or sitting: Frequently.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling: Rarely.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 20 lbs: Rarely.
  • Walking: Occasionally.
  • Driving: Rarely.
