divh2Bus Paraprofessional/h2pResponsible to: Transportation Director, Bus Driver/ph3Qualifications/h3ulliHigh school diploma./liliExperience in working with disabled populations preferred./liliGood personal hygiene/liliGood communication skills/liliAbility to visually observe children/li/ulh3Primary Function/h3pAssists in the safety and well-being of children while being transported to and from school./ph3Specific Duties/h3ulliAssure that the driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the bus/liliAssist children safely getting on the bus and secure them in proper child restraint/liliAssist children safely getting off the bus and into the custody of those individuals authorized to receive them/liliLearn each childs name and ensure that they are delivered to correct residence/liliRetrieve any items belonging to the child and assure it stays with them/liliFollows and ensures mandated child restraint devise procedures, ensuring that children are properly positioned and restrained in the bus, including wheelchairs/liliIn the event of an accident or emergency, assures the safe evacuation of all passengers following the Bus Evacuation procedures/liliCommunicate effectively with staff and parents and keep information confidential/liliAssure that no child is left unsupervised on a bus/liliRelay to staff or parents, any notes or materials sent by either party/liliAnswer parents questions with any pertinent information about their childs bus ride or condition in a positive, professional manner/liliAssist in maintaining the cleanliness of the interior of the bus for safe operating condition/liliIn the absence of regular driver, assist substitute with route directions/liliAttend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings/liliPerform check at end of route ensuring that all children are off the bus and it is empty/liliPerform other duties as may be assigned/li/ulh3Working Conditions/h3ulliRisk of exposure to blood, body fluids and communicable diseases/liliMust be able to lift 50 pounds/liliMust be physically able to climb into school bus, bend, kneel and squat/li/ulpMust be able to safely move around vehicle while it is in motion./p/div
